Amidst this impending challenge, there was a man with a master plan to revolutionaries the healthcare system and bring miracles to thousands of cancer patients. That person was Imran Khan, a famous cricket player who became immensely popular and had enough money to build something really important – the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (SKMCH&RC).

 

Genesis of a Vision

 

In 1991, Imran khan started a task of construction a cancer hospital now known as Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre afterward trailing his mother to the illness. In 1985, his mother, Shaukat Khanum, was acknowledged with cancer. This is because, Pakistan did not have enough good treatment facilities and hence, she had to seek treatment outside this country. Sadly, with all the doctors’ intervention, she could not pull through. Imran Khan was also saddened by this type of situation, and he later constructed a new cancer treatment hospital in Pakistan to avoid the same challenges.

The Huntington families were very generous and their donations made it easier for the hospital to provide free or even discount services to many patients. The concept of telethon and charity dinners also developed over the years and people from all around the world started to support the hospital through these events which were held yearly.

 

Looking Ahead

 

As SKMCH&RC keeps growing, its goal stays the same: to deliver the best for cancer patients, develop innovations in relation to research and technology, and educate the future generations of medicine. Hospital is also poised for further expansion of facilities, increase services to spreading out awareness, and continue funding for research and education purposes only.
